In the Cards

In a retail market like today's, it's smart to appeal to as wide an audience as possible. But of course, aiming for the lowest common denominator is tricky. But Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have proven that they know how to give men and women of all ages and tastes what they want. So when the pair decided to launch a fragrance for their D&G line, they opted for not one, but five—an anthology of scents targeted not at specific demographic, but a personality and based off of properties found in tarot cards. For instance, of the more masculine scents, L'Amoureux, No. 6 (the lover's card) has peppery top notes and a hearty wood finish, while Le Bateleur, No. 1 (the magician's card) starts clean and citrusy before developing into a warmer, more heady blend. The colognes launch exclusively at Nordstrom next week. $65 each, at Nordstrom
