The First Apartment
Interior designer and author Kyle Schuneman on smart, masculine design for small spaces.
Treat your bedroom with the respect and care that it deserves and the rewards will be rich. After all, better sleep and better sex results in a better man, right? Now, we're not talking about sex pointers today, but we do have a helpful suggestion that will instantly up the sex appeal of your bedroom and give it a more sophisticated, grownup feel. And it all starts by pulling the bed away from the wall.
It's a common mistake. One that's usually carried over from childhood or dorm room living. Especially when you don't have a very big bedroom, pushing the bed frame against one wall seemingly frees up more room. But one might ask, why do you need to maximize floor space in your bedroom? Find another place to do your daily push-ups in order have a more mature place to rest, relax and invite others to stay the night. Because a bed tucked against a wall certainly makes it hard for two people to get in and out of comfortably. There's nothing sexy about having to scoot to the other side.
You don't need the extra floor space. You need to anchor the room with your bed and allow it to breathe with proper space on both sides. Ideally, there's enough room to put a side table on each side. But if not, a simple plant or maybe a lamp will do. Trust us, it's a small move that has a big impact.
