Styling Tip

Dress it down untucked with navy chinos and plain canvas sneakers, class it up tucked into a pair of khaki trousers with no break, loafers and a subtle blue blazer. Feeling bold? Throw it on over a pair of off-white jeans.

The Aloha Shirt Spectrum

It's no secret that floral prints are having a moment. But in places like Hawaii, they never left. President Obama's home state lists the Aloha shirt as its premier textile export, and all-over patterns of florals, leaves and other island-friendly items have made their way into a slew of stores—from surf and street brands to designer labels. Having one in your closet is a great way to add some texture and color to an outfit while on vacation, or just on your days off (so long as it's sunny out). Here are a few of the season's best, in a range of prices.

Hisham Bharoocha, $65

Part of a collaboration with It's Nice That Magazine, ASOS enlists artists like Hisham Bharoocha for bold retro interpretations of the Hawaiian shirt.

Reyn Spooner, $98

One of the originators of the aloha shirt, this version is made from 100% Hawaiian cotton, with lots of tiny fish worked into the subtle print.

Mark McNairy, $185

An American-made camp shirt with a postcard print of a Hawaiian getaway, adding two front patch pockets and a throwback collar.

Stussy, $78

Staying true to their surf roots, Stussy's Hawaiian-themed shirt is splattered with hula girls and cut from a lightweight cotton poplin material.

Rag & Bone, $175

The British-born designers take a classic Hawaiian print and interpret it into a slim shirt with details like a chest pocket and reinforced placket.

Woolrich Woolen Mills, $195

Also designed by McNairy, this printed shirt is inspired by West African Batik cloth, giving the aloha shirt a decidedly more tribal feel.
