The Colorblock Trunks Spectrum

Styling Tip

Easily make the transition from beach to boardwalk with a polo shirt, patterned chambray hat and a comfortable pair of sandals.

While there's nothing wrong with simple board shorts in solid colors, if you're looking to pick up a brand new pair this summer, consider something colorblocked. Easier to pull off than other bold style choices, these trunks will handle the rigors of the ocean, but look just as good on the sidewalk as they do on the boardwalk—not that it's very practical to wear them too far from the water. With everyone from Old Navy and Katin to Saturdays Surf jumping into the trend, we gathered up a few options so you can dive right in. And like your neighborhood pool, the prices start off shallow, or you can choose to go right to the deep end.

Old Navy, $20

Made of quick-drying twill, these tagless lined shorts have the longest inseam at 10".

Lightning Bolt, $59

American-made trunks that ditch the drawstring for a convenient snap button.

Katin, $66

Board short veterans Katin turn out these shorts with a snap fly and a nylon shell and liner.
