The Hoodie Spectrum

  •
Wear one under a varsity or denim jacket, but it's still tricky to throw one under a blazer. Our advice? Avoid it. It's little early-2000s.

If you're looking to upgrade your off-duty style, you can't go wrong with a couple of hoodies in your arsenal. While there's nothing wrong with a classic solid gray, black or navy version, consider upping the ante and going for a bold color or pattern. Lately, multiple designers and brands are branching out with color blocking, materials and patterns to help push this wardrobe staple away from its slovenly connotations and towards more stylish territory. That said, all of these still look good with a great fitting T-shirt and a pair of jeans. Here are a few we think are worth checking out:

Uniqlo, $30

Bold color-blocking (available in four colorways) sets this affordable cotton staple apart from the pack.

NN.07, $175

A classic hoodie style crafted from a throwback cotton-poly blend makes for a super soft jersey sweatshirt.

Nike x Undercover, $350

Modern technology and considered design combine for a water-resistant hoodie with taped seams and Dri-FIT fabric.

J.Crew, $80

The Breton-stripe gets re-interpreted into a hoodie, while a two-button placket keeps things from getting too laid back.

Reigning Champ, $182

A subtle all-over herringbone print takes this Canadian-made heavy fleece beyond boring.

Lanvin, $675

A seriously luxe designer version made from midnight blue silk chiffon and contrast black cotton jersey.
