Polos

Why

It's the quintessential warm weather shirt and something of an icon of casual American style.

Origins

In 1926, world-class tennis star Rene Lacoste made himself a tennis shirt with a ribbed collar inspired by Anglo-Indian polo players.

How to Wear It

Pull one of these sporty shirts on with your jeans or some shorts and canvas sneakers. Dress up a pair of swim trunks. Or layer one under a lightweight jacket on cool evenings.

What to Look for

The right polo should be cut from durable yet breathable cotton, with a close (but not restricting) fit and sleeves that are cut high and tight.
