Old Kicks,
New Tricks

After tearing up the Trad-o-sphere a few months ago with the announcement that they'd be updating the long-loved Bass Weejun, the company's finally released its new school "Dover" model. Like updating a classic car model for today, they smoothed out some lines, making a few nips here and tucks there. But unlike a car, the price has remained rather modest. Personally, my ambivalence to the Weejun's been well-documented. I've always felt the shoe was a little stuffy—for those guys that were square of jaw and blue in blood. But I like the leanness of the Dover, with its elongated toe box and slimmer heel. And hell, anything good enough for James Dean is good enough for me.

  • Bass was founded in 1876 in Wilton, Maine.
