The New Cargo Pants

Question
I've been looking for a pair of cargo pants. Not those baggy, sidepocketed ones, but rather the classic front pocket kind. It seems designers are returning to them. Any advice on where to find a quality, reasonably priced pair?

Answer

Those Abercrombie kids, dragging their feet in oversized flip-flops, have disseminated the cargo pants for many of us. But you're right, the field pant—a sort of safari-style precursor to the modern day droopy mall cargos—is enjoying a revival by labels like Hickey, Michael Bastian and Junya Watanabe. This pair here is by Woolrich Woolen Mills, cut in a hearty chino cotton and lined in a lightweight (but soft) flannel. Which not only adds a layer of warmth, but also a pop of plaid, should you roll 'em up. And isn't that what cargo pants should do, blend fashion and function?

The Expertly Packed Carry-On

Question

What should I pack for my first business trip?

- Matt, OH

Answer

With nearly every airline imposing a baggage fee nowadays, if you can get away with flying with just a carry-on, do it.
