No one is more closely connected to Persol shades than Steve McQueen. Incidentally, he not only made them famous in America but also had a vast personal collection of the sunglasses. So it makes sense that the company, founded in Turin, Italy in 1917, would release a line inspired by the king of cool. The crown jewel in the Steve McQueen collection? The 714 model—a classic wayfarer style with foldable tortoiseshell frames and those signature blue lenses—that the actor wore in the 1968 film The Thomas Crown Affair. They debut next month and while they're certainly expensive, the glasses will cost less than if you were to try to find a comparable vintage pair on eBay. Of course, if you can't wait you can get the standard 714 style (without the blue lenses and special finishing) on sale now for a mere $235 at Amazon.
$360, available in October at Sunglass Hut
