A Grown Up Bag

There comes a time in life when you want a bag fit for a man, not a man-bag. Not a canvas tote or a run of the mill messenger, but something serious. Something crafted with care, that will last for decades and only get better with age. The only briefcase you'll ever need. This is the kind of bag Gregory Peck had in To Kill a Mockingbird.  A satchel style leather briefcase with strap closures and a brass lock. Certainly something of a bygone era, Filson thankfully still makes something incredibly similar. Their leather field satchel is handcrafted in their Seattle factory from tough, vegetable tanned bridle leather and stitched with heavy bonded nylon thread. It comfortably fits the modern man's necessities like a laptop and even has an interior cell phone pocket. According to the company, it takes about a decade to fully break in the hard-wearing bag. If that (or perhaps the price) is a tad intimidating, J.Crew has a similar style made from soft, washed and tumbled leather for less than half the price.

  • Gregory Peck won an Oscar for his portrayal of Depression-era lawyer Atticus Finch. To Kill a Mockingbird, $10 at Amazon or iTunes.
