The Western Shirt

It's one of those "you've got to try it to appreciate it" pieces: A western shirt. Cut from rugged materials, often in shades of blue, they're usually festooned with cowboy detailing like pointed yokes and snap pockets. These are not attributes that whisper. But all evidence to the contrary, a western shirt is one of those garments that looks good on nearly every guy—no matter your style. And Levi's makes a great (and affordable) line in a range of materials—from dark denim to lighter chambray. They've got a naturally slim fit and an air of casualness. Wear it open, layered over a T-shirt or henley. Or tuck it in under a sharply tailored sport coat with a natty cotton or silk knit tie. Just don't be afraid of it.

From top to bottom:

Chambray, $68; Washed denim, $68; Sawtooth, $78
