Shawl Collar Cardigans

There's something foolproof about a chunky knit cardigan. A tad slouchy and relaxed, it's comfy and forgiving, but it also makes for a smart jacket replacement. It's rare that a piece of clothing can be both laid back and dignified, but the shawl collar cardigan is just that. Perhaps that's why it remains a staple of seasonal dressing year after year. Whether you're pairing it with a T-shirt and jeans or a shirt and tie with flannel trousers, the shawl collar is the best of both worlds—it feels like you're wearing an old sweatshirt, but you instantly look put-together. The real question is whether you're a hearty lambswool-with-elbow-patch kind of guy, or more of a ribbed-cotton-with-gold-buttons man.
