Created by optical designer Raymond Stegeman, the design was a radical shape for the time—a mid-century icon akin to the Eames chair or a Cadillac's tail fins. The shades ended up on the faces of celebrities and civilians alike and went on to become one of the best-selling sunglasses in the world. While the design has evolved slightly over the years, the company has just unveiled a dramatically improved version for the 21st century.
