Cooler Cargos

Autumn may be around the corner, but it's still a tad too warm to be breaking in a new pair of jeans for the season. Besides, you're likely due to give your denim a break. A proper pair of cargo pants is a smart way to start channeling a rugged fall wardrobe without letting go of comfortable, lightweight fabrics completely. And we mention "proper" because we know the reputation cargos have with most men. They were uncool for so long, that it's hard for some to come onboard. We get it. But like so many things in fashion, what was once tragically unhip has been reimagined by savvy brands into something desirable. Today's best versions are something of a cross between paratrooper and prep. The real question is do you prefer the more lived-in, washed version or something a bit more tailored and streamlined?

I've worn cargos with everything from a tank top to a dinner jacket—I mean, you can't ask for much more range than that.
