The
All-Weather
Jacket

Sometimes, your job as a men's style editor is to stop total strangers and ask them about their clothes. That's what I did recently when I was standing behind a man waiting to get coffee. I wanted to know where he had found his jacket—a lightweight cotton zip-up that looked  something like a cross between an M-65 field jacket and a Baracuta Harrington. Cut in a trim silhouette, this mix of two classic pieces of outerwear looked modern, tough and extremely versatile. With its its stand-up collar, slim sleeves and utilitarian pockets, it could be worn as a cover on rainy days, a light shirt-jacket over a T-shirt or even a badass blazer alternative. It's the kind of piece you can wear for any situation in nearly any climate. I was sold. Then I got the good news. The gentleman told me he'd just picked it up at Zara. That was a shock because the fit and finish of the jacket looked like it would cost a lot more than what what he said he paid. So while I waited for the barista to finish making my coffee, I pulled out my phone and ordered a jacket for myself.

FYI

The M-65 field jacket was named after 1965, the year it was introduced as standard issue for American soldiers.
