Despite a slow economy, up-and-coming accessories brand Nikolai Rose seems to be emerging at just the right time. With two collections under their proverbial belt, designers Alan Paukman and Jacob Melinger (both native New Yorkers, both 22) have created their latest collection with a depression-era dandy in mind. "The character of that era's clothing was extraordinary," says Melinger. "Suits with missing buttons or torn lapels." That gritty, time-worn texture is woven into every piece the pair crafts—from a patinated sterling tie bar or oxidized pocketknife to an inside-out tie, meticulously hand-stitched. "We weren't directly influenced by the economy when we were designing it, per se, but I guess it's just good timing."
