The Jacket: Lettering In Style

It's only fitting that along with the start of another school year, the reissue of Take Ivy, (along with a handful of preppy, collegiate tomes) that the varsity jacket would roar back onto the scene. The successor to the letter sweater, varsity jackets have been around for a few generations now. Traditionally, they've been a way for high school and college athletes to display their varsity letter and denote their BMOC status—if only in their head. I remember getting my own varsity jacket (and letter) freshman year of high school and wearing the hell out of it for the next three years. It was my only cold weather coat. The patina on its leather sleeves would make a guy like Michael Bastian swoon. This fall's crop of jackets are updated and offered from a veritable who's who in men's style. Slim cut and sans varsity letter, they're made from high end wool and leather and give off a preppy jock vibe that's a great match for any casual outfit. So break out your old one, patrol eBay or pick up one of our favorites here.
