Marilyn Monroe

Marilyn Monroe was born with the rather ordinary name of Norma Jeane Mortenson but went on to become one of the most iconic movie stars in the world. And while she indelibly remains in the sexual consciousness of American culture wearing that breezy white dress, we like seeing her a bit more down to Earth. In this 1954 Lambda color photograph of Monroe in the garden of her Palm Springs, California home, she wears nothing more than a simple chambray shirtdress and a coy smile. It was a small choice for a woman, but one big step in the right direction for denim.
