Almond's Swell Style

Five years ago, Dave Allee founded Almond Surboards & Designs in his hometown of Newport Beach, California with a group of likeminded surfers and craftsmen interested in doing things the old fashioned way. Never far from the water, the guys opened a studio on the Pacific Coast Highway—just down the street from some of their favorite surf spots—to serve as a retail shop, showroom and workshop. Inside, you'll find hand-shaped surfboards, handplanes and easygoing apparel. Crafted in California with a retro fit, most of their wares are garment dyed and enzyme washed to feel as if they've seen their fair share of salt and sun. It's these cool, off-duty staples that have put the brand on the radar of stylish men on both coasts. Because even if you've never picked up a board or are miles from the beach, you can appreciate the insouciant, retro cool of their latest collection. The subtle balance achieved in a patch-pocket chino that's at once trim yet relaxed; a handsomely utilitarian chambray shirt or the perfect '50s-inspired striped tee. They're the kind of clothes that make easy work of looking cool when the weather warms up.
