A modern collection of clothes and accessories influenced by American style, Levi's Made & Crafted is directly inspired by the California brand's rich history and craftsmanship over the last century. Today, the label is building upon that legacy by designing tomorrow's classics, utilizing the best materials and technical innovations of today. "There's so much we've learned after 140 years, about quality, fabrications and construction," says Miles Johnson, creative design director of Levi's Made & Crafted and Levi's Vintage Clothing. "With Made & Crafted we've analyzed it down to the best methods, they're not the easiest, but we think they're the best."
What does that translate into? How about forgoing inexpensive plastic buttons for unique ones made from compressed cotton, bone or wood? Using real indigo and other natural dyes to color clothes? Binding seams or only using premium quality denim woven in the USA, Japan and Italy? The resulting alchemy all adds up to clothes that call to mind the care and attention to detail that was once commonplace in quality manufacturing, but rarer to find today. All of the brand's shirting, for example, is hand sewn using single needle construction.
This spring, the collection was inspired by that great American tradition: the road trip. The design team started out in their home base of San Francisco and charted a course through the woods of Lake Mammoth, later heading south towards the painted deserts of Mexico. The result? Cool, comfortable clothes that offer a kaleidoscopic take on menswear for the modern wayfarer. With a spirit of adventure sewn into each piece, they're clothes that have a rugged sensibility that could be from anywhere or anytime, but yet feel very much right now.
