Manly Furniture
“
I didn't go to school for any type of design. I've always been curious. I learn so much from taking things apart, which leads me to understand how things are made.”
The J.Crew team was in Los Angeles recently and they stopped by furniture designer Stephen Kenn. A favorite of head men's designer Frank Muytjens (who owns a few pieces himself), Kenn's utilitarian furniture—covered in hardwearing fabrics like old Army tents and denim—can now be found in some of J.Crew's larger stores. The motorcycle-riding furniture designer gave the J.Crew crew a tour of his studio and talked about what brought him to the West Coast, his artistic influences and getting lost in warehouses.
FYI
We first learned of Kenn when we snapped this shot inside J.Crew’s Santa Monica shop and posted it to our Instagram.
