Yesterday, another casualty of the economy was reported: men's neckwear sales. The upshot of it is, although suit sales rebounded to end last year nearly unchanged, the number of ties sold in the US fell 18% in the same period—more than double the drop the industry saw in 2008. Of course, reports of the tie's death have been greatly exaggerated before, but it still doesn't look good. The Los Angeles Times' Adam Tschorn thinks that an old school celebrity spokesmen, like George Clooney, "could single-handedly put the four-in-hand back in our hands."
