The GQ Eye has an interesting first-person piece from Zeph Colombatto, a young man who will be dressing some of the models backstage at Michael Bastian's F/W '12 show later this afternoon. He speaks with the designer and gains some insight into all the work, planning, stressing and last-minute tomfoolery that goes into a fashion show—just 13 minutes of models parading up and down a runway. As for this collection's inspiration, Bastian explains his influence of "the Extra Man," (a term first coined by a New York Times article written in 1974):
These were men who were charming, well-dressed, educated, and single—that's really important,' Bastian says, leaning back in his chair. 'These are the guys who you actually want to talk to at a party. They're topical, smart, and can tell a dirty joke. They are the social Olympians.
