Essential Medicine Cabinet

As president of the famed New York apothecary C.O. Bigelow, Ian Ginsberg travels the world in search of amazing products, new and old, that look good, smell good and best of all, really work. He's also a licensed pharmacist who knows what you need. We asked for a peek into his medicine cabinet to see what you should be stocking in yours.

"I discovered this in a pharmacy in Italy back in the 80s. I love staples of European culture and I also love adding some fun to mundane tasks."

"The greatest shave on earth. Based on an old Italian recipe, it's a lather shave with glycerin and eucalyptus. Trust me, you've never had a closer shave."

"I'm a runner and as I get older, I can't handle the added calories in Gatorade. This is an effervescent tablet that packs all the electrolytes without the sugar. It tastes great and it comes with guarana for an extra kick."

"When you hit 30, it's time to add eye cream to the regimen. This works on fine lines, eliminates dark circles and reduces puffiness. Start now and ward off years of partying and sun worshipping."

Aleveicon, $11

"It works quick, is easy on the stomach and you only need to take it once or twice a day for aches and pain."

"A must for the morning after a rough night. It's a facial gel with caffeine so no one will ever know you were driving the big white bus."

"Invest in a good implement, not one of those 99 cent things. This one is still made in Germany, stays sharp forever, and serves triple duty for fingernails, toenails and cuticles."

"I first picked this up in Paris and use it every morning for both my face and body. Amazing for these dry winter months."

"After a shower in the winter, this is a must. It contains Lactic Acid, vitamin E, borage oil and is clinically proven to break the cycle of dry skin."

"Hands down, Le Labo is my favorite fragrance brand. The company is supercool and the concept is brilliant. The fragrances are hand-mixed fresh right in front of you. This citrusy scent is my everyday fragrance."

"You know when you've spent the day at the ocean and you think your hair looks great? That's beach hair. Use a bunch for lots of hold, a drop for a little. It's made with crushed bamboo and can be used on all hair types wet or dry."

"Men don't want to hear it but it's important to rid skin of dead cells. Your complexion looks brighter and your moisturizer won't have to work so hard. This is a cleanser and scrub in one so there's no extra step."
