The Reverse
Seam Shirt

After years of running a small New York men's shop, Steven Alan launched his label in 1999 with his now signature reverse seam shirt. The artfully disheveled and perfectly tailored American made button-downs quickly reached cult status and Steven Alan went from a Manhattan shopkeep to the sartorial personification of all-American ease. The designer grew up in both Venice Beach and New York, so that dichotomy of prep school pomp and casual California cool weaves its way into every piece the man produces. Like this new take on the reverse seam shirt, rendered in silky soft organic cotton jersey—yes the same stuff used to make a good T-shirt. With the same twisted placket, inside-out chest pocket and French seams found on all his reverse seam shirts, this has an even more relaxed feel, ideal for layering or simply taking the edge off a work-appropriate blazer. And like all his best pieces, the shirts exhibit that fitted-but-comfortable Steven Alan feel.

The key is in the details; the fabric, fit and then little details that make them special.
