Crossover Appeal

The dust has finally settled after Topshop's much-hyped New York opening and while some are still talking about the superfluous lines outside, we're looking ahead to the next import. We're pulling for The Kooples, a Parisian brand founded by three brothers last September, which has already swelled to nearly two dozen shops around France—due largely to the experience the siblings got working for their parents (owners of the mother-daughter chain Comptoir des Cotonniers). The Kooples, however, has a much more downtown vibe, a slick mix between American Apparel and APC with prices just north of Club Monaco. But for the craftsmanship, the price is well worth it. Tailored pieces, like a school blazer with rock and roll edge, are designed in collaboration with venerable Savile Row tailor Norton & Sons. And nearly everything in the shop is considered unisex. So go dutch on the jacket and it's practically half off.

Clockwise from top left: Shirt (sold with ascot), $156; Bermuda shorts, $169; Motorcycle jacket, $508; Cotton blazer, $480

The Expertly Packed Carry-On

Question

What should I pack for my first business trip?

- Matt, OH

Answer

With nearly every airline imposing a baggage fee nowadays, if you can get away with flying with just a carry-on, do it.
