JFK Style

This weekend's Memorial Day celebrations mark the unofficial start of the summer season, ushered in by John F. Kennedy's birthday on the 29th. Who better to model your easy-going summer style after than JFK? While he was certainly a sharp dresser when it came to suits, the president was more known for his comfortable, nautical style (developed over decades sailing around Cape Cod). Salt-washed chinos, trim polos and Bermuda shorts topped with tortoiseshell shades and grounded with simple canvas sneakers. They're the kind of effortless, masculine duds that looked just as timeless in the 1960s as they do today.

One of Kennedy's most popular campaign items was the tie-clasp replicating the form of PT 109, the boat he captained during WWII.
