Whether you're above or below the water this summer, a sporty watch with a rubber strap will keep you on time and looking sharp no matter what adventures you put it through. "Rubber straps are really just now coming into their own—watches that should have been made with rubber straps in the past simply weren't because it was thought to be a cheap material," says Ben Clymer, editor and founder of Hodinkee. "Think about the Submariner, that should've had rubber as an option from the beginning." Some of his favorites on the market today are Audemars Piguet, Richard Mille and IWC, which released a tribute to its 1967 Aquatimer that looked every bit like the original, except it now has a textured rubber strap. "They've shown that it can be chic, so now we're just waiting on Rolex to offer a rubber strap."
