I'm not much of a morning person as it is, so the idea of shaving while I'm still bleary-eyed and wishing I was in bed is worrisome, at best. Then I heard a novel idea from an actor, who was asked by his makeup artist to shave the night before, so he wouldn't arrive on set with a red face and bumpy neck. It makes sense. When you drag that blade across your face, it removes dead skin cells and the superficial layer of the epidermis, reducing your skin's defenses against irritation and breakouts. Plus, because most of our mugs are a little puffy in the morning, we aren't able to get as close a shave as we'd like, resulting in an early 5 o'clock shadow.
So I started shaving before I go to bed and it's a whole new ballgame. It's not a hurried hack job preformed pre-coffee with my attention misdirected on what I have to do that day. At night, I can take my time, do it right and enjoy the ritual of it. I get an incredibly close shave, then apply some moisturizer and let it work its magic on my newly shorn skin. Any redness or irritation is taken care of as I sleep and I wake up with a clear, smooth face. You'd think that after six or seven hours of sleep, that there'd be some stubble, but just try it for yourself and you'll see. Then, like me, enjoy the extra time you have in the morning ... to sleep in.
