Eight months ago, Club Monaco hired Timothy Farah to head up the company's menswear line. His first order of business? To transform the suiting with better fabrics, a streamlined fit and bespoke-like detailing. The centerpiece of the new collection is the Wright suit, which features a shorter jacket with slim lapels and a higher arm hole paired with narrow flat-front pants that have a barrel-cuffed hem. Farah perfected the tailoring of that Eisenhower-era look while designing under Thom Browne for Brooks Brothers' Black Fleece collection. And the techniques he learned—full canvas construction, roped shoulders, working buttonholes—all remain in his repertoire. But while the fit is trim, it's much more forgiving than one by Browne. So is the price. A suit will set you back less than $500, and for a little more you can get a matching waistcoat and tie.

Jacket, $349, pants, $139, available this month at Club Monaco

  • This suit will come in a range of fabrics for fall, including prince of wales plaid, nailhead and gray flannel.

The Expertly Packed Carry-On

Question

What should I pack for my first business trip?

- Matt, OH

Answer

With nearly every airline imposing a baggage fee nowadays, if you can get away with flying with just a carry-on, do it.
