The Summer Oxford

Few things are more paramount to the stylish man's wardrobe than an oxford shirt—it's easy, it's understated, it's cool. But it's also undeniable warm once the weather turns. Because oxford cotton is a thicker fabric, it can start to feel rather heavy and course under the sweltering sun. Summer salvation comes in this butter-soft, lightweight version by Gitman Bros. Vintage—the new line by the master shirt makers at Gitman, who've been in the game since 1948. In fact, the shirts for such designers as Thom Browne, Cole Haan and Apolis Activism are all crafted by the steady hands at Gitman's Ashland, Pennsylvania factory. The vintage line features designs pulled from the company's archive and reproduced with a modern fit and Americana details like chalk buttons, box pleats and the locker-loops we all remember from childhood.

  • The spring/summer 2009 collection was recreated from Gitman's summer 1982 line.
