Tie Week

This week we're celebrating ties—the quintessential accessory in men's style—with five days of goods and tips revolving around your neck.

The Bow Tie

Make no mistake, this little guy is not for the faint of heart. You could argue that it's a tad affected, but there's also a bit of "go to hell" rebellion too. Ensure your statement is subtle by keeping the tie dark and the rest of your look simple. Think a plain tie with a university stripe oxford (with a jean jacket and some chinos) or a white shirt with a patterned tie and dark denim.

How to Tie One

Don't fuss over it. As you can see from the ties above, having a knot that's personal, is better than one that's perfect. As for the mechanics of the bow, let the gents at Brooks Brothers show you the way.

I have a special place in my heart for clip-ons," says Scott Sternberg, the Band of Outsiders designer. "They're just great little objects and really, I don't know anyone other than myself and my Mom that can effectively tie a classic, to-be-tied tie, so they're strangely practical.
