Six Degrees of Sweatshirts

In the last few years, sweatshirts have gone from the slovenly stepchild of weekend wear and risen into the ranks of cool off-duty style. Gone are the shapeless pullovers made from puffy, pilled fleece. They've been upgraded to slimmer styles, cut from quality jersey and French terry fabric with old school details. They make for an ideal cover this time of year when you no longer need a jacket. But the real question is how far from the classic grey sweatshirt do you stray?

Gap, $40

Short-Sleeve

Perfect for pulling over a button-down or under a jacket. And the Steve McQueen undertones don't hurt.

Graphic

Indigo and floral motifs: Can you get more of-the-moment than this eye-catching style?

YMC, $120

Lightweight

Crafted from featherweight French terry, this has been piece-dyed and enzyme-washed for a vintage feel.

J.Crew, $65
