Enduring Classic

Speed Stick

In the age of Axe body sprays, promising instant sex and good times with just a few squirts of its sickeningly potent mist, there's something refreshing about the simplicity of Speed Stick. Introduced in the late 1950s, Mennen's signature deodorant was marketed as the anti-roll-on. And its place as a market leader has remained as untouched as its simple formula and mossy fragrance. At the time, the design—a man-sized oval-shaped stick—was an innovation and as one advertisement from the '60s described: "Fast! Neat! Businesslike!" Which is exactly why we appreciate it. There are no false promises or gimmicks. Just good, clean American ingenuity. The fact that it comes in perfectly retro packaging for a mere three dollars is just a lucky coincidence.
