Three Brands
to Watch

From new upstart labels to fresh offshoots from established brands, here are three all-new collections to keep on your radar for the coming spring.

A look from CWST's spring collection, available soon at Ron Herman and Saks Fifth Avenue.

CWST

When Riviera Club, the relaxed California-cool label was shuttered, two of the gents behind the label relaunched the brand under a new name, CWST (pronounced "quest"). A natural evolution, the brand is a little more grown up with a focus on fit and American-made quality. "A lot of blood, sweat and tears went into Riviera Club and it was definitely a challenge letting it go," says co-founder Derek Buse. "But the best part has been the idea of going back to the drawing board." What are some of Buse's favorites for spring? "The linen styles—linen's gotten a bad rap as a fabric that old leathered dudes in St. Tropez wear," he says. "In reality, and done correctly, it's a fabric that more guys should consider putting into rotation this spring/summer."

Roots XL Collection

The athletic outfitter is celebrating four decades in business with their new made-in-Canada XL collection (XL being the roman numeral for 40). "We wanted to design a collection that was as Pocket tee, $38much about the heritage of the brand over the past forty years as it was about our direction for the next forty years," says designer Adrian Aitcheson. "We combed through our archives and found a classic fabric that we have used to make T-shirts for over 30 years called 'work out jersey.' We then worked with a local mill to develop a fleece based on its unique cotton-rayon blend and then we built a sweat collection that is the best we've ever made by obsessing over every detail."
