Aviators,

Then & Now

There's a reason why classics endure. They work. A pair of aviators will suit a multitude of face shapes and look both modern and nostalgic. Ray-Ban pioneered the style, developed by Bausch & Lomb in 1936 for US military pilots. A year later, Ray-Ban started selling them to civilians and the iconic style has remained virtually unchanged for seven decades. Now, the company is offering a refresh—not the styling of their signature shades, but the material. The just-released Liteforce frames are created using "a new bio-material semi-crystalline thermoplastic." It's the kind of lightweight but durable material used in aerospace and automotive technology. Which means that those of us prone to bending or breaking thin metal frames might've found some aviators that will survive all summer long.
