The Chore Coat

"Men at work" is a phrase plastered over construction sites and city sidewalks, but it's a saying that applies just as much to raking leaves or picking up groceries on the weekend. Chore coats are a classic American shape, typically outfitted with two to four pockets along the front of the jacket. Worn by men who need to get things done, those pockets are just as handy at holding tools as they are stashing tickets, receipts and smartphones. No matter how rigorous your chores actually are, the durable jackets are easy to sport solo on warmer days, but work especially well when pulled over over a few layers when winter really sets in. Best of all, these days the coats come in a variety of fabrics—from thick duck canvas and waxed twill to more luxe takes like indigo-dyed wool. Pay attention to that outer fabric (and what "chores" you'll be doing) when picking out the one that'll work best for you.
