Chuck Taylor

Read up on the Chuck Taylor's history when we dissected the shoe in our regular series, Anatomy of a Classic.

The Chuck Taylor All-Star is a shoe that's truly stood the test of time. From its original purpose as a basketball sneaker to its current cult status as the de facto shoe of rebellious rockers and classically cool guys everywhere, the only thing that's really changed is the construction. Well, that is, until now. While vintage Chucks can fetch prices well over $100 on the aftermarket, today Converse releases the 1970s Chuck Taylor. Part of its quality-made First String Standards collection, this "Chuck Taylor All Star hi" features a higher foxing, thicker toebox and a sole that definitely feels more substantial than its contemporary counterparts. Factor in some high-grade canvas uppers and old school details like the license plate logo on the back of the shoe, and you've got a piece that's part homage, part modern classic. The timeless black and white Chuck Taylor is available today, while other colors like sunflower and crimson will become available later throughout the spring.

$75, available in white and black today at Conepts, 37 Brattle St., Cambridge, MA; 617.868.2001
