Field Jackets

The rugged, layerable all-weather outerwear you need this fall.

It's the chosen coat of Hollywood badasses like Travis Bickle and Serpico, but the M-65 field jacket began as a standard issue uniform for soldiers in 1965. The mid-weight jacket replaced the earlier M-51 during the Vietnam War and with its stand-up collar, oversized zippers and utilitarian pockets, slowly emerged as an icon of masculine style. The reason being is that it adapts to nearly any outfit or situation and, well, all those pockets come in handy. The key is finding the right fit and finish. Surplus versions (like Alpha Industries and Army Universe) will run a bit large, so size down. If you're looking for more modern interpretations, check out the streamlined version from Orvis or the waxed cotton style from Corridor.

J.Crew, $198

Corridor, $595

Army Universe, $57.99

Rothco x Lucid, $200
