The Espadrille

First appearing in the 13th century as simple-soled shoes made for the King of Aragon's foot soldiers, espadrilles were later rediscovered by such legendary men as Hemingway and Picasso. Fast-forward to today, and they're having a moment yet again. The shoes traditionally consist of cotton or canvas uppers, and are anchored by a rope sole made from jute (a durable vegetable fiber). They're naturally light and breathable, making them the perfect addition to your warm weather kit. Forget the flip flops and throw on some espadrilles with a pair of slim chinos and a basic tee. It's time to hit the beach, Pablo.
