In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, California sneaker brand SeaVees has collaborated with Montreal based illustrator Cécile Gariépy for a bold pair of sneakers. Upon closer inspection, the colorful, abstract pattern is actually a subversive message of optimism and pride.

When designing the shoe, Gariépy says she was inspired to make an impactful and inclusive statement that highlights the need for awareness of the disease. The result was an empowering print in a bright pink, purple and peach color scheme that takes you by surprise. These are kicks that will, no doubt, start a conversation. And it's a conversation that we need to have.

SeaVees says their goal for this limited edition shoe was to celebrate survivors, empower the fighters, and commemorate those who have lost their lives to this disease. What's more, 10% of the proceeds from each pair sold will go towards the Susan Love Foundation for Breast Cancer Research. The foundation challenges the status quo to end breast cancer while improving the lives of people impacted by it through education and advocacy. So there's no reason not to get these ... the only question is, are you bold enough to wear them?
