Socks

Why

Because what's left of those summer-tanned ankles are now in need of some cover.

Origins

In the Middle Ages, people wore fabric over their feet secured with garters. It wasn't until the early 1900s that the first circular knitting frames were developed, allowing for mass market production of socks.

How to Wear It

Today's man has the benefit of having a little color covering his ankles, rather than the boring business black and sterile gym sock white. And a shot of bold color adds a subtle, continental flair to whatever you're wearing.

What to Look for

Plush, thick knit fabrics and sturdy stitching. You want the elastic to be stretchy and strong enough to last through multiple washings.
