At 63, Sir Paul Smith is Britain's most commercially successful fashion designer. He's got $400 million in the bank personally and no plans to retire anytime soon. WWD sat down with him as he prepared his upcoming fashion show in Paris and learned a little about how he's managed to stay successful, relevant and most of all happy during the last decade of big spending and major losses.

It sounds incredibly smug now, but I think it was just understanding that life on earth is not just about gain, it's about enjoying every day, and health and happiness and a working environment and lifestyle.
