On the Road

The Moment has all the info (and inspiring shots) from Jens Hoffman's new show "On The Road" at Artspace gallery in San Antonio. The hands-on curator got behind the wheel himself, traveling through the Southwest from Del Rio, Tex., to White Sands, New Mexico. "To supplement the exhibit's iconic images of America's car culture — Ed Ruscha's gas station photos, Mary Heileman's abstract paintings of highways — Hoffman gathered his own artifacts during a week long journey. He attempted to finish off a 72-ounce-steak in one hour at Big Texan restaurant in Amarillo. 'If you do, they comp your meal. I couldn't do it but there was an episode of The Simpsons where Homer did,' says Hoffman, who decided to forego the doggy bag for a menu."
