The martini’s cooler, lesser-known cousin
You’ve likely never of it. Nor had we, until now. It’s really a shame this historical drink isn’t featured on more cocktail menus. The grandfather to the modern martini, the Martinez starts with rich, slightly sweet Old Tom gin. Serious Eats, which has the recipe, suggests seeking out Ransom or Hayman’s gin. You’ll then mix it with sweet vermouth, maraschino liqueur and bitters for results that are velvety and complex.
