Military

Why

With stand-up collars, oversized zippers and utilitarian pockets, classic field jackets and other military-influenced outerwear have emerged as a staple of masculine style.

Origins

The M-65 field jacket began as a standard issue uniform for US soldiers in 1965. The mid-weight jacket replaced the earlier M51 during the Vietnam War.

How to Wear It

These rugged jackets work with just about anything you'll wear this fall and winter. From chinos and sweats to jeans or a pair of wool trousers.

What to Look for

A smart fit, durable finishes and plenty of pockets. Surplus versions (like Alpha Industries for example) will run a bit large, so size down for a trimmer, more modern fit.
