The New Shoes on Our Radar

From oiled leather derbies to a classic American made sneaker

Is it time to re-evaluate the shoes in your closet? Maybe this list will help get you going in the right direction. There are so many great shoes dropping these days, we thought we would pull a few of our current favorites to showcase. From an iconic sneaker and fisherman sandals to some mules, these are the shoes our team can't stop talking about.

Gazelle Shoe

adidas introduced the original Gazelle sneaker in the '60s and later updated them in 1991, which is the version you're familiar with today. While the brand is certainly having a moment with their Sambas and fashion house collaborations, these murdered-out shoes caught our eye. There's something so sophisticated about an all-black shoe, especially in a textural nubuck material that looks luxe, even though these will only set you back about a hundred bucks. Plus, they can be worn with practically anything. Go head-to-toe denim on denim or throw on some hiking shorts.

Fisherman Sandal

You know how Birkenstock's Boston clogs have been the summer shoe over the past few years? Well, the fisherman sandal is next up. Personally, I tend to think of the funny uncles at the cookout wearing these with a shorts-and-polo look, but maybe I'm turning into that guy the older I get. Vinny's footwear specializes in high-quality footwear that balance good looks with comfort, and these sandals—with their all-leather construction and solid metal buckle—are no different. Don't be afraid to wear these like any other shoe in your closet, but you'd be killing it in a khaki-colored double-breasted linen suit, that's for sure.

Fleurus Derby

These modern derby shoes are inspired by a classic pair of Belgian loafers, updated with laces and sturdy micro-lug soles. The outsole is crafted with an adaptable and lightweight welt, providing durability and comfort. The textured oiled leather not only makes this a versatile shoe, but it ensures that they will develop a beautiful patina over the years. Wear these with a suit or some stonewashed denim—either way, they'll be the star of the entire outfit.

Mason Backless Mule

Blackstock & Weber's new mules offer a more substantial take on the classic slip-ons. Handmade in Portugal from full-grain pebbled leather, they're finished with a double sole and horse-bit detailing. The construction of the mule is top-notch, from the Goodyear welted outsole to the smooth leather interior that feels great on bare feet. There are levels of luxury with this mule—they'll no doubt be the most fly shoes for any occasion. And if you tend to get blisters on your heels when you wear loafers, well, these are backless, so problem solved. Wear these to the office, bodega run or that destination wedding later in the summer.

Made in USA
998 Sneaker

No sneaker company does the shades of grey better than New Balance. The brand's Made in USA collection continues to be one of the most consistent in the footwear industry today. The 998-silhouette was released in '93 and was the first shoe from the brand that utilized the ABZORB cushioning technology. Today's version still has the same cushioning in the midsole, but is made with a soft pigskin suede upper. While some of New Balance's old school shoes can feel a little bulky, these have a more sleek profile—perfect for the warmer months. Meaning that the kicks will easily complement your baggy nylon shorts, a pair of sweats or even some dark, raw denim—if you're getting down with that again.
